In 1973, Jim Michie and Roger Thompson formed Thompson Michie Associates (“TMA”) and purchased a high-rise apartment building in downtown Salt Lake City.  They infused the property with high quality improvements and began to sell the individual apartments as condominiums.  This successful project led to several more rewarding apartment conversions until interest rates in the 1980’s became so high that new homeowners could not afford to purchase.  Along the way, TMA became a skilled and experienced property manager and began to diversify into apartment acquisition and management.  Rooted in values of high quality service, honesty and integrity, the firm has grown to now manage over 5,000 apartment homes in 6 states (Utah, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, New Mexico and Nevada).

Successive generations of the TMA founders now concentrate on institutional-grade multi-family apartment communities with 100 units or more in the intermountain West.  Branding and operating the apartments under the Thompson Michie Communities umbrella, residents, lenders, vendors, and property owners recognize its value and anticipate high-quality service and results. 

TMA boasts experience in all aspects of multi-family apartment management, including new construction lease-up and systematic value-add property enhancement.  We expertly leverage technology to streamline rent payments, service requests, accounting, expense controls, marketing and pricing models.   Over the years, TMA has garnered experience in office management, light industrial / warehouse management, managing as court-appointed receivers, acquisition due diligence, 1031 exchange processes, refinancing and consulting.
